Businesses entities and other professional bodies risk having their details expunged from the National Register if they fail to update their records with the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC).
This, the ORC explains has become necessary as the new office was hived from the Registrar General’s Department.
Jemima Maama Oware, the Registrar of Companies has therefore urged businesses to comply with the directive.
“We have noticed that some professional bodies have amended their names without informing us. Some are even operating without being registered and some were also registered as far back as 1973 and have moved on to become chartered institutes and yet they are still in the register as professional bodies so it very important for the update to clear up all those anomalies,” she said.
“They have up to December 31, 2023 to renew and update their records if you don’t the opportunity to update after that period it means you are no more a professional body and we will take your name out of register,” she noted.
The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2022 to take charge of the administration of the registration of companies and businesses in the country.
Operating as an autonomous body, the ORC handles the registration of businesses such as private public companies limited and unlimited by shares, private public companies limited by guarantee, including churches, schools, NGOs, CSOs, associations, unions, external companies and professional bodies.
